Bayern Munich are confident injured striker Robert Lewandowski will be available for their Champions League semifinal against Barcelona, according to CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
On Wednesday, Bayern announced that Lewandowski sustained a broken jaw and nose after a collision with Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Mitch Langerak in their DFB Pokal penalty shootout loss.
Arjen Robben also suffered a calf muscle that has ended his season, but Bayern are hopeful their Poland international will make a swift return to action.
Speaking to kicker, Rummenigge said that Bayern are "rather profoundly convinced" Lewandowski, 26, will be able to return for the first leg at the Camp Nou on May 6.
On B5 Radio, Rummenigge added that a special mask to protect his face should "ensure that he can play against Barcelona."
Meanwhile, Bayern honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has hit out at Dortmund shot-stopper Langerak.
"This was the most brutal goal keeper foul there is," the 69-year-old told Bild. "It's just madness that referee [Peter] Gagelmann did not punish it."
The honorary president's statement was in line with Rummenigge, who had urged the 46-year-old referee to seek "an optician" following his performance at the Allianz Arena.
Dortmund keeper Langerak, who was named Man of the Match by kicker magazine, has since apologised to Lewandowski in a text message, according to Bild.
"Robert and I are friends, and of course I am sorry for what happened," he was quoted in the German media. "Everyone, who knows me, knows that I only intended to play the ball."
