Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has said nobody at the club blamed Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt for the 3-1 defeat to Porto.
Muller-Wohlfahrt, 72, and his entire staff resigned last week after 38 years with the club after claiming his medical team had been blamed for the loss in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg at Porto, when coach Pep Guardiola had been without a host of key players.
Bayern issued a statement to say that they had reluctantly accepted the decision but refused to go into detail over the matter at a news conference on Friday, accepting only one question on the topic.
Guardiola is reported to have clashed with Muller-Wohlfahrt several times over the treatment of players, while German football magazine kicker reported on Monday that Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had told the doctor's assistant Fredi Binder that they were to blame for the injuries and subsequent results.
However, Guardiola told the media on Friday that he accepted responsibility for all losses, and Sammer told Sky at the weekend: "Nobody blamed him [Muller-Wohlfahrt] for the Porto defeat.
"I understand that there are questions, but everything there is to say was said on Friday. There is no need to make interpretations or play things up. It was Muller-Wohlfahrt's decision. We took note of it, and we are sad about it. Everything has already been said."
Muller-Wohlfahrt is set to continue his work for the German national team and he received the support of the German FA (DFB) following his Bayern exit.
"We have an arrangement with him until the 2016 European Championship, and nothing will change that," DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach told dpa.
Germany coach Joachim Low added in kicker: "I trust Muller-Wohlfahrt 100 percent."
Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said that he will continue to see the doctor.
"I have known him for years, and it's always also dependent on the injury, of course," he said in quotes reported by Abendzeitung. "I am a national team player and will continue to receive treatment from Muller-Wohlfahrt."
The doctor will also continue to work with six-time Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt, the Jamaican's agent confirmed to the Daily Telegraph at the weekend.
