Bayern Munich fans raise funds to help Ukrainian refugee charities

Bayern Munich's biggest fan group, Club Nr.12, will donate money to refugee charities in Ukraine after supporters contributed funds following last week's game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The round-of-16 game, which ended in a 0-0 draw, was played in Lviv because of the ongoing violence in eastern Ukraine. The club's Donbass Arena suffered severe damage last year.

As fans made their way back to Germany, Club Nr.12 members collected Ukrainian currency that had not been spent, the group explained on Facebook.

The money will be bolstered by further funds to be raised at the weekend's home game against Cologne.

During a visit to a Lviv hospital last week, Bayern officials said the club's charity branch would help fund operations on 60 children in Ukraine.
