Robert Lewandowski a 'go-to guy,' says Bayern's Matthias Sammer

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has praised striker Robert Lewandowski, saying he deserved his goals against Paderborn for his high workrate.

Lewandowski scored twice as the Bundesliga leaders hammered their opponents 6-0.

The Poland international has started 18 league games and played a part in every Champions League match, scoring 13 goals despite sometimes playing out of position on the left, but some reports in the German media have suggested he could be on his way in the summer.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Sammer described Lewandowski as "go-to guy" and added: "He thoroughly deserved those goals -- he fought hard in training and worked hard."

The striker said: "When you play in a big team, expectations are always high.

"I know what is expected of me. I always want to play and score goals. It worked out today. I don't have any problem with the coach."

But on Monday, kicker claimed Lewandowski would only be happy at the club when played as a central attacker in the important games, adding: "Otherwise the debate will continue, that's for sure."

In an interview with the football magazine, former Bayern midfielder Dietmar Hamann -- one of the first to question the Poland international's role at the club -- had suggested Manchester United should "throw the gold reserves at the market to get him."

Speaking to Sky Germany, former Bayern captain Stefan Effenberg said Lewandowski "fits into every system in the world."
