Pep Guardiola remained confident after Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw by Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, insisting that his side were more dominant in the first leg on Tuesday.
Both teams managed just one shot on target apiece, with Rafinha only testing Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov in the first minute. Bayern's Manuel Neuer smothered a long, low free kick in the first half, and that was all the threat that the hosts provided.
Bayern, however, spent much of the game on the attack, even after Xabi Alonso was sent off on 65 minutes for a second yellow card.
"We had more chances to score. Shakhtar Donetsk had none, zero,'' Guardiola said.
"We were a man down for a long time, and that obviously makes it very difficult. We controlled the play, but we created very few scoring chances.
"We have to win the return now, and we'll do it with our fans behind us."
Shakhtar striker Luiz Adriano always poses a threat with nine goals so far in the competition, and Guardiola added that his "gameplan for today" had mainly focused on keeping Shakhtar's "very, very fast" forwards under control.
"We were able to keep Alex Teixeira, Taison and Douglas Costa under control and I am very happy with this," he said.
"Maybe for the next game in Munich our target, our game, will be completely different."
Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer said the result was no reason to panic, though he suggested Bayern have work to do before the second leg.
"If you'd offered it me beforehand I wouldn't have been satisfied," Sammer said. "After the sending-off I can probably live with it a little better, but I consider it a dangerous result because it only sounds good on the face of it.
"We controlled their counter-attacks well. But you can see we still have room to improve, and that's the message. We need to put it behind us now and shift up a gear if we're to make the next round. It wasn't bad, but it's not the real Bayern yet -- and that's where we have to be."
Forward Mario Gotze also said he was disappointed his side could not take an advantage back to Munich.
"We'd like to have scored here, it would have been important," he said. "We made very, very heavy weather of it in the final third, and all in all we never played our usual game the way we intended to.
"We have a second game, and we'll need to give it all we've got. The details make the difference in the Champions League."
Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu was satisfied with the result but said Bayern had taken a cynical approach to the game.
"Sometimes we tried to play on the offensive but when we did that, Bayern's players fouled us," he said.
