Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm steps up recovery after ankle break

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has begun rehabilitation training two months after breaking his ankle.

Lahm, 31, suffered the injury in training in November and has since undergone an operation and several weeks of physiotherapy.

On Tuesday, Bayern announced on their official website that Lahm "is no longer wearing a splint and has set aside his crutches" and is working on building up his stamina, power and manoeuvrability.

"I'm doing really well. It feels great to be rid of the crutches and in a position to go for it again," Lahm said. "It's all going to plan."

The former Germany international has previously said he hoped to make his return in March, hoping to play a part in the run-in as Bayern seek success in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
