Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is to return to the club in January when he is afforded day leave from the prison where he is serving a jail term for tax evasion.
An employment contract is awaiting his signature to enable him to fulfil the requirements for day release from the Landsberg am Lech jail where he has been held since June.
Hoeness was sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars after being found guilty of avoiding the payment of nearly 30 million euros by keeping a secret bank account in Switzerland.
The 62-year-old reported himself to the tax authorities almost two years ago when he learned of an investigation into secret accounts in Switzerland. It was not until March this year that he finally stepped down as Bayern's president, just prior to sentencing.
From January, he will be permitted to leave the jail every morning and return every evening, as long as he has a work contract, which Bayern have offered him.
"We're all looking forward to him starting back here again in January, no matter what day it is,'' Bayern's current president Karl Hopfner told a news conference on Wednesday.
Hoeness' precise duties have yet to be defined, although he will likely assume a role within the club's youth development programme, out of the public eye.
He first joined the Bavarian club as a player in 1970, but after injury cut his career short at the age of 27 nine years later, he moved into a managerial role.
He spent over three decades as their director of sport, before being voted unanimously as their new president in 2009 -- a position he held for just over four years before stepping down prior to entering jail.
