Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer want more goals from Bayern Munich

Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer have warned that Bayern Munich need to start scoring more goals to continue their good run of form.

Bayern conceded their last goal in August, when Schalke centre-back Benedikt Howedes found the back of the net in the 1-1 draw at the Veltins Arena.

The Bundesliga champions have since scored 10 in six games, keeping a clean sheet in all of them. However, nearly half of those goals came in the 4-0 win over SC Paderborn, and while continuing their possession-based dominance, they have not created as many clear-cut chances as they would have liked.

Mario Gotze has found the back of the net four times in the Bundesliga, while Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller have each only struck twice so far.

Lewandowski, a summer arrival from Borussia Dortmund, has already been criticised by sections of the German media, but Bayern boss Pep Guardiola has said he is happy with the Poland international.

During Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League win at CSKA Moscow, Guardiola's team had a 91 percent pass completion rate and also had 73 percent of the possession, however, their opponents still created four chances to Bayern's six.

"We could have more shots on goal, even so, we had a few good opportunities today," Bayern captain Lahm was quoted as saying by kicker after the game. "That's why it was a close game until the end. It's been like this for weeks now. We just can't put the match to bed early."

Bayern goalkeeper Neuer echoed Lahm's comments, but also defended Lewandowski.

"He did not have too many touches of the ball, but he's marked by two players most of the time, and needs to create space for the others," he said.

Neuer, though, warned that Bayern might be found out by their opponents in future for allowing too much space to be hit on the break.

"We had more possession and control, we have dominated the opponent, but that's also dangerous," he said. "It's important that we don't run into the counter-attacks."
