Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland ruled out for two months

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kevin Volland faces two months on the sidelines after suffering a torn thigh muscle in training.

Volland, 24, joined Leverkusen from Hoffenheim in the summer for a club record fee of around €20 million.

The Germany international scored the crucial goal in the 1-1 draw at CSKA Moscow that secured Leverkusen's place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The club said Volland had suffered "a complex torn thigh muscle in training," announcing on their official website that he is "likely to be out of action for eight weeks."

Although he has already started rehab work, he could miss the Bundesliga restart on Jan. 22 following the month-long winter break.

On Wednesday, teammate Admir Mehmedi was ruled for between two and three weeks with a torn muscle.

Tenth-placed Leverkusen host Freiburg on Saturday.
