Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt has been banned for an initial three matches, plus a further two suspended, and fined €20,000 for defying referee Felix Zwayer's orders in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Schmidt refused to leave his technical area despite being sent off after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 64th-minute goal, leading to a nine-minute delay as Zwayer ordered the players from the field.
The Leverkusen coach, who had already been warned by Zwayer, became incensed when Dortmund scored on the counter-attack following a quickly taken free kick just under six metres away from the position where forward Stefan Kiessling had fouled a BVB player.
Schmidt was ordered to the stands but refused to leave the pitch, prompting Zwayer to halt the match until the coach accepted his dismissal.
The German Football Association (DFB) opened disciplinary proceedings against Schmidt and on Wednesday announced that he would be banned from the touchline for an initial three games and fined €20,000.
He could face a further two games on the sidelines if there are any further disciplinary infractions before June 2017.
During his ban, Schmidt will not be allowed any contact, direct or indirect, with his team, beginning 30 minutes before kick-off and ending 30 minutes after the final whistle, and he will also not be allowed into the dressing room or tunnel or onto the pitch.
Leverkusen's sporting executive Rudi Voller was also fined €10,000 by the DFB for criticising referee Zwayer in a postmatch interview, the association announced.
The DFB said Leverkusen have accepted both verdicts and will not appeal.
