Rui Almeida replaces Francois Ciccolini as Bastia manager

Rui Almeida has replaced Francois Ciccolini as the head coach of relegation-threatened Bastia following their Ligue 1 humbling at Angers.

The Corsicans are five points from safety after losing five of their last eight matches, including the 3-0 reverse in Maine-et-Loire on Saturday, across a winless run stretching back to December.

Ciccolini, 54, has now paid the price, with Bastia announcing on their official website on Monday afternoon that his 13-month reign at the Stade Armand Cesari had been brought to an end.

A statement read: "Bastia and their head coach Francois Ciccolini have decided by mutual consent to end their collaboration.

"Everyone at the club wants to thank Francois for everything he did at Bastia and we wish him well for the rest of his career.''

Bastia then appointed Portuguese tactician Almeida -- the former Sporting Lisbon and Braga assistant manager -- on a two-and-a-half-year contract. He will take control of the team when Nantes visit on Wednesday.
