France's Interior Ministry says a crowd of about 100 people in the Corsican city of Bastia attacked a police station with projectiles and Molotov cocktails in response to arrests following a Reims-Bastia match.
Bastia won the Ligue 1 game 1-0 on Saturday in Reims, and one of the Corsican city's fans was injured during a scuffle with police. Eight people were arrested, the Interior Ministry said.
Bastia said the fan lost sight in his injured eye and Gilles Simeoni, a top Corsican official, said witnesses suggested police acted with unusual brutality.
About 100 people attacked a Bastia police station on Sunday in apparent retaliation, the statement said. One officer suffered a head injury.
The Interior Ministry called on Bastia to take stronger action against hardcore supporters.
