Bastia's Djibril Cisse likely to retire at end of 2014-15 season due to hip injury

Djibril Cisse is likely to end his career at the end of the season due to a debilitating hip injury that means the former Liverpool forward is in pain daily.

Cisse, 33, made his return to Ligue 1 action in Bastia's 3-1 defeat to Monaco last weekend after spending five months on the sidelines due to the problem, which means he can barely walk sometimes.

The striker -- who joined Bastia from Russian outfit Krasnodar last January -- told L'Equipe 21 he considered quitting in the summer, but requiring just four more Ligue 1 goals to reach a century, the ex-Sunderland and Panathinaikos forward is determined to battle through the pain barrier until the season's end, but no longer.

"In my situation, if I manage to do it, it'll be great," the former French international said. "I could have and should have stopped. All the specialists have told me it's dangerous to continue like this. But I don't want to. And I can't stop so close to my objective. There will surely be four penalties before the end of the year.

"I can grit my teeth for a season, but for two or even three, it's not possible. So, I think this will be my last season."
