FA charges Norwich, Sunderland after early clash in weekend game

The Football Association has charged Norwich and Sunderland with failing to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion during Saturday's game.

The teams clashed in the fourth minute of Sunderland's 3-0 victory at Carrow Road and now face punishment from the FA.

The incident began when Norwich's Robbie Brady challenged Sunderland defender DeAndre Yedlin and sent the U.S. international crashing head first into the advertising hoardings.

Sunderland goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker immediately grabbed Brady before players and staff from both sides squared up in front of the dugout.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce was in the thick of the melee, shoving Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson and substitute Cameron Jerome.

The two clubs will have until 6 p.m. on Thursday to respond to the charge, the FA said in a statement.

The development follows further controversy elsewhere in the Premier League on a weekend in which Leicester's Jamie Vardy was charged with improper conduct following his red card against West Ham, whose striker Andy Carroll accused referee Neil Moss of trying to "even things up" by awarding Leicester a late penalty in Sunday's 2-2 draw.
