Ex-Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli ideal for Premier League, says Arturo Vidal

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal believes former Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli would be a big success in the Premier League.

Vidal played under Sampaoli while the Argentine was in charge of Chile, with the pair helping the nation to Copa America success on home soil last summer.

Sampaoli has since left his role with the national team, quitting in January, and has reportedly turned down an offer to manage Swansea, while he has been linked with taking over at Chelsea this summer.

"I would love to see him in England," Vidal told The Times. "He has a lot of quality. He would help any club he joined to improve. He has the perfect style for the Premier League.

"He likes speed, he likes pressing, he likes to attack a lot. That is the football you like in England, isn't it? He works hard too. He understands players, he studies everything. He would do really well in England. He only lives for football."

During last summer's Copa America, Vidal crashed his car while under the influence of alcohol.

Despite the midfielder coming in for plenty of criticism, Sampaoli opted to keep him in the squad and was rewarded after he scored in the penalty shootout that settled the final against Argentina to secure Chile's first ever trophy.

"It was complicated," Vidal said. "A lot of people focus on the accident; in Chile, like in many places, maybe people like to focus on the mistakes you make rather than the things you achieve. For a Chilean player, winning that title is almost impossible, because it is South America, and that is home to the strongest national teams in the world.

"There was a lot of pressure, because it is a country that has never won anything. I can remember the final whistle and the bus tour through Santiago, but it is like I am watching from the air, as though I am not myself.

"What we did was important. It brought happiness to an entire country. To achieve something like that was a dream, to give something to a country that has suffered so many blows. The emotions of something like that are something you can only understand in the moment."
