Ronald Koeman, Sergio Aguero take Premier League awards for January

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has been named the Premier League's Manager of the Month for January, while Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero was named top player.

For the second year running, Koeman has been named as the English top-flight's best boss for January having won three out of four games, including wins against Watford, West Brom, with a last-gasp victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford proving to be the icing on the cake.

In winning the award, the Dutchman becomes the first Southampton boss to be named Premier League Manager of the Month on three separate occasions.

Speaking to the club's official website, Koeman said: "I'm very pleased because it's always nice to win awards.

"It's of course a personal prize, but it's great for the whole technical staff, all the players, the people in the club and the fans that we win again.

"It's my third Manager of the Month award and that's a great feeling."

Manchester City, meanwhile, are three points behind table-toppers Leicester, having claimed two wins and two draws in the Premier League in January.

Aguero was key to their good form, scoring five goals across four games, including a late equaliser against West Ham and a crucial winner at Watford, helping the Blues to secure eight points.

The Argentine forward has put his early season hamstring and ankle troubles aside as City target their third Premier League title since 2010.
