Tottenham are adding steel to their style, says midfielder Ryan Mason

Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason has said he believes the side are striking the right balance between flowing football and midfield steel this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's team are fifth in the Premier League and unbeaten in the league since losing at Manchester United on the opening day of the season.

Mason told the Evening Standard that Spurs were leaving behind their old reputation as a team that crumbled when the pressure was on.

The midfielder, who could be back in the side when Chelsea visit White Hart Lane on Sunday because of Dele Alli's suspension, said: "We're getting the mix right.

"We're nasty at times and the teams who win things are those who, when the going gets tough, pull together, put their foot in, win tackles and second balls. In the Premier League that's massive.

"You have to deal with long balls and different styles of play all the time, and we're getting better at that.

"We want to play nice football, but there are times in games and situations where you can't do that, and you have to come together and be solid.

"We have definitely improved in that aspect of the game. The unbeaten run in the league is a remarkable achievement, though we will not get carried away with it."
