Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal aware fans frustrated by lack of goals

Louis van Gaal has said he is concerned that Manchester United supporters are unhappy with his side's style of play.

United were booed by some fans after Wednesday's 0-0 Champions League draw against PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford -- their fourth goalless draw in seven games.

And while Van Gaal again rejected suggestions that his United side are boring, he said he was worried about the reaction in the stands.

"Of course, because the fans have to be happy," he said in a news conference. "You are playing for the fans so you cannot deny that."

The Dutchman, whose team have only scored six times in eight matches, is adamant that United are fashioning enough opportunities and blamed their drought on negative opponents.

"You have to see how our opponents are playing against us, and when you see how they play then you know also the difficulty to disorganise that kind of opponent," he said.

"We are still not lucky to finish to the chances. We are creating chances. If we are not creating chances, then I am very worried.

"But we are creating chances and not giving too much away so normally the result has to be very good then, and that is why we are second in the league and second in our Champions League group."

United visit Premier League leaders Leicester on Saturday, and Van Gaal suggested the Foxes could be genuine title challengers.

"Normally this kind of club can be a long time competing but normally at the end it is more difficult," he said.

"But in England, because of the quality of the teams, because every team has the money to buy players and they have bought players, the difference in England between the level of the clubs is not so high."

Van Gaal refused to say whether Jamie Vardy, who has equalled a Premier League record by scoring in 10 consecutive games, was a transfer target for United.

But he said he had bad memories of the England international, who played a starring role when Leicester beat United 5-3 last season.

"He was already last year a very nasty player for us," he added. "He scored, he provoked a penalty and now he is scoring 10 games in a row. Then you are a great player.

"I only know, for example, Dennis Bergkamp as a player for me did the same for Ajax. That is not so easy."
