Marton Fulop, former Hungary keeper, dies aged 32 after battle with cancer

Former Hungary goalkeeper Marton Fulop has died of cancer at the age of 32.

Fulop, who played for clubs including Sunderland, Leicester and Manchester City, announced in 2013 that he was taking a break from the game after having a malignant tumour removed from his arm.

The Hungarian football federation posted a message on its official website on Thursday confirming Fulop's death and "expressing its deep sympathy on behalf of the Hungarian football family."

Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, a fellow Hungary international, posted a message in tribute to Fulop on his Facebook page.

His former clubs MTK Budapest and Tottenham Hotspur were among those to pay tribute.

Former Sunderland teammate Danny Higginbotham wrote on Twitter: "So sad to hear the news of Marton Fulop. Spent a lot of time with him at Sunderland AFC. One of the good guys. Thoughts with his family."

Fulop began his career with MTK, leaving Hungary to join Tottenham in 2004, and made his debut with the senior national team the following year.

He had loan spells with Chesterfield and Coventry and then moved to Sunderland in 2007.

He was sent out for temporary spells with Leicester, Stoke and Manchester City, and later spent time with Ipswich, West Bromwich Albion and Asteras Tripoli.

He made a total of 24 appearances for Hungary.
