Jamie Vardy a 'warrior,' says Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri hailed Jamie Vardy and insisted England can have a warrior in their ranks.

Three Lions chief Roy Hodgson will name his squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Switzerland and San Marino next month on Sunday.

Vardy made his international debut in June's goalless draw with Ireland after helping inspire the Foxes to survival in the Premier League last term and is hoping for another call-up.

The 28-year-old has scored once this season, with Ranieri challenging him to net more after he bagged five last term, but the boss believes his striker will add fighting spirit to the Three Lions.

He said: "Jamie is positive, he is a warrior, every ball could be the best ball. He never gives up and I love this kind of player. Anything can happen, Jamie attacks and breaks the line all the time and it's very good for us.

"When some international coaches call my players up it means we're doing a good job. I don't speak about my players with national team managers because it's not right but if someone wants to ask me, I'm open.

"Roy has too many players to watch. I've tried to buy some England players for Leicester but the players cost a lot of money."

Vardy could feature when Leicester travel to Bury for their Capital One Cup second-round tie on Tuesday with the Foxes unbeaten under Ranieri, who replaced Nigel Pearson this summer.

Ranieri is set to make 11 changes to the side which drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Saturday and he admitted their start has been perfect as they sit second in the Premier League table.

"It's a dream, of course, because you think anything can happen," he said.

"Sport is fantastic because you don't know what's the right way or wrong way. Only on the pitch will you see.

"For us, it's important to start well because the confidence grows and the link between me and the squad grows."
