Olivier Giroud: Arsenal well-armed to challenge Chelsea for Premier League

Arsenal are "well-armed" for their Premier League challenge after beating Chelsea to win the Community Shield, according to Gunners striker Olivier Giroud.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first-half goal was enough to give the FA Cup holders a 1-0 victory over the Premier League champions at Wembley on Sunday.

The result was Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's first victory over Jose Mourinho in 14 attempts, but Giroud told reporters it signalled the Gunners' ability to push Chelsea for the title this season.

"It's good for confidence," he said. "Moreover, we didn't concede and we created quite a few good situations.

"We've won four finals in a row, the series continues, that's good. That's a fourth trophy. Now, we want to attack the Premier League.

"We're well-armed, we have sent a certain message. We're ready. I hope we'll be spared injuries, because we really have a super squad."

Giroud spent the opening hour on the bench at Wembley after Theo Walcott was preferred to the France international to lead the attack, replacing the England forward after 66 minutes.

While Giroud was disappointed not to start the game, the former Montpellier man said both he and Walcott -- who has signed a new four-year contract with the Gunners -- would push each other to produce their best.

"It doesn't matter if I'm on the pitch or a substitute" he added. "I came on and gave my all, as per usual. I could have perhaps scored, but I just lacked a little luck.

"Personally speaking, there's no problem: I'm happy here where I am, and Theo and I will spur each other on up front."
