Chelsea's John Terry ready to play on for more two years at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea captain John Terry believes he has two more years left at the top and has admitted he would consider playing for another club if he became surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Terry confirmed that he would not play for another Premier League club after devoting his entire career to Chelsea and suggested he would only stay on at the club if he was likely to remain as a first team regular.

"If I felt Chelsea were going to release me or thought I had nothing else to give but I thought I could, then of course I would still want to continue to play," Terry told reporters in America. "But that would not be in the Premier League, for sure."

When asked how long he felt his Chelsea career still had left to run he offered this response: "I am 35 at Christmas, so a couple of years.

"I am always looking ahead. These past five, six years, I haven't thought it would be my last preseason. Every summer I work more or less every day to give myself the best chance.

"If it comes to that point where I am left out of the side I know it's not through not trying and I can look at myself in the mirror and my family."

Terry went on to suggest his strong relationship with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho means he will know when the time has come to bring down the curtain on his Blues career.

"If I can keep my form, I am in the side," he continued. "But if I don't keep my form he will have no qualms about taking me out and putting someone else in.

"He [Mourinho] has been superb to me. I will give him everything. And he has been a father figure in my career so I owe him an awful lot."

Terry went on to suggest his Chelsea team will face strong competition to defend their Premier League title this season, after a summer that has seen their chief rivals in England spend big money to add to their squads.

"They had to sign people because last year we were head and shoulders above everyone," Terry added. "It's going to be very tough and not just us against the top sides.

"Everyone is going to be up for beating us. I thought the way we played and the way we won it, staying top all year, showed how good we were.

"Our rivals will come back a lot hungrier, ready and believing they can catch us and even overtake us. Everyone raises their game."
