James Milner and Danny Ings help Liverpool past Adelaide United

ADELAIDE, Australia -- New signing James Milner made it two from two on Liverpool's Australian tour as the midfielder netted the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Adelaide United, with fellow new boy Danny Ings also getting on the scoresheet.

A rousing rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" from 53,008 fans greeted the players to the Adelaide Oval, but despite the overwhelming support, Liverpool took the best part of 70 minutes to make their superiority count against a spirited local side.

The deadlock was eventually broken by Milner following a Liverpool counter-attack. After Adelaide's Jimmy Jeggo conceded possession on the halfway line, Jordan Henderson moved the ball wide to Jordon Ibe, whose first-time cross was met by a sliding Milner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Tarek Elrich went closest for Adelaide with 18 minutes remaining, but his effort from distance struck the base of Simon Mignolet's right-hand post.

Then, three minutes from time, a galloping Nathaniel Clyne fed second-half substitute Ings to seal the victory.

Also on Monday, Norwich City lost to Israeli side Maccabi Haifi 1-0 in Austria.

Alon Turgeman scored the lone goal on a curling strike six minutes before half-time.
