Tottenham MP David Lammy asks FA to let Spurs play at Wembley Stadium

Tottenham want to hire Wembley Stadium for a season while they build their new stadium at White Hart Lane, with the club's local Member of Parliament stepping in to boost their claims.

Spurs are set to spend a season away from their Tottenham base while their new 61,000-seater stadium is developed, with Milton Keynes' stadium:mk and Wembley always believed to be the most likely potential venues for a temporary relocation.

That has now been confirmed by Tottenham MP David Lammy, who wrote to Football Association chairman Greg Dyke to request the club's use of the 90,000-seater Wembley -- and avoid a possible commute to Milton Keynes, nearly 50 miles from their north London base.

"What I hope is avoidable is a scenario in which the club is forced to leave not just White Hart Lane, but London too," Lammy wrote in a letter appearing in the Evening Standard.

"A season spent playing at Milton Keynes would make following their club extremely difficult for supporters, the vast majority of whom are based in north-east London.

"It would be also detrimental to London, given that Tottenham contribute £120 million a year to the economy. Tottenham playing their home games at Wembley would result in significant new revenue for the FA -- revenue that could make a difference to grassroots football facilities.

"I am of the view that such an arrangement would be in the interests of all parties. However, it is important that any decision is based on more than mere financial considerations.

"It would be a failure of common sense if an arrangement along these lines cannot be reached. I would be grateful if you could reassure me that no club will be given more favourable treatment than any other during this process."

Chelsea have also been linked with a possible move to Wembley, amid reports they will spend three seasons away from Stamford Bridge while it undergoes a complete refurbishment.

The Tottenham Supporters Trust have also written to the FA, appealing for their club to use Wembley, with a decision on where Spurs will play for one season expected to be made later this year.
