Raheem Sterling reports back for Liverpool training - sources

Raheem Sterling has reported for training at Liverpool after missing two days because of illness, sources have told ESPN FC.

Sterling was absent on Wednesday and Thursday after contacting the club to tell them he was unwell, but he was present at the Reds' Melwood training base on Friday.

The 20-year-old, who wants to leave Liverpool, told manager Brendan Rodgers earlier this week that he was unwilling to go on the club's preseason tour of the Far East and Australia.

Liverpool will fly on Sunday to Bangkok, where they will play their opening match of the tour on Tuesday, against a Thai All-Stars team. Liverpool expect Sterling to be part of their party, despite his wish to force through a move to Manchester City.

Sources told ESPN FC on Thursday that City remain confident of securing the England international after this week's events.

The 20-year-old, who is under contract until 2017, said in April that he had refused a new deal worth £100,000 a week -- a significant increase on his current wages of £35,000 a week.

Liverpool, who value Sterling at £50m, have rejected two City bids for Sterling, and are now awaiting a third.

Steven Gerrard, who left Liverpool for LA Galaxy this summer, told Sky Sports News on Thursday he was unhappy with his former teammate's actions.

"I'm not happy with all that carry-on and I don't think there's any need for it. They all need to be men about the situation," Gerrard said.

"Raheem needs to go in and speak to the owners and to Brendan [Rodgers] himself, tell them what he wants and go about it that way. You don't have to throw illnesses in and refuse to go on tour.

"There are millions and millions of Liverpool fans around the world who are itching to see Raheem Sterling in a Liverpool kit. So I don't think it's fair on them if he is behaving like that."
