San Jose Earthquakes-Man United friendly moved to Berkeley

The San Jose Earthquakes have moved their scheduled friendly against Manchester United to the University of California's Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.

The Earthquakes unveiled their 18,000-seat Avaya Stadium earlier this year but decided to move their marquee matchup with the Premier League giants 47 miles north to Cal's football stadium, which can hold more than 62,000 fans.

"The Earthquakes have competed in nearly every major venue in the Bay Area and now we are excited to play at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley," said Earthquakes president Dave Kaval.

"To be able to play a well-known and respected team such as Manchester United at this great venue is a tremendous opportunity for our club and our fans."

The July 21 game is part of the International Champions Cup. The Earthquakes have already sold out their other game in the summer event, at home against Mexico's Club America.

United's game against Barcelona in nearby Santa Clara set for July 25 is also sold out.

Tickets for the Earthquakes-United match go on sale May 29, with an earlier presale for season ticket holders.
