Man City captain Vincent Kompany may miss derby - Manuel Pellegrini

MANCHESTER -- Vincent Kompany is a doubt for the Manchester derby and faces a fitness test before Sunday's clash at Old Trafford, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said.

The City captain was hurt in Monday's 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace and could be forced to miss the clash with Manchester United.

If Kompany is ruled out, Eliaquim Mangala is set for a recall alongside Martin Demichelis, and City, who are also without Dedryck Boyata, would be down to two centre-backs.

"We will assess Kompany tomorrow [Saturday]," Pellegrini said in a news conference on Friday. "He could finish the last game but he didn't work this week in a normal way.

"We will see tomorrow if he can play or not. It is always better to play with Kompany but if not we have a squad."

Pellegrini only has two strikers at his disposal with both Stevan Jovetic and Wilfried Bony ruled out.

Neither was fit to be in the matchday squad at Selhurst Park and Pellegrini revealed the Montenegrin and the Ivorian have not recovered yet.

"Stevan Jovetic has a muscle injury," he said. "Bony had a problem the day before the game against Crystal Palace. He twisted his ankle and knee so he will not be ready for this game."
