Nottingham Forest are set to win the race to sign Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom on loan, sources have told ESPN FC.

A number of other Championship clubs, including Norwich, Derby and Bournemouth, have been chasing striker Akpom -- but Forest are set to bring the England under-20 international to the City Ground.

Despite being under the constraints of a financial fair play (FFP) embargo, Forest have been able to bring in loan signings or free agents.

They are restricted in how they can contribute to players' wages while they are on loan, but sources have told ESPN FC that a deal with Arsenal is close to being agreed.

Forest boss Dougie Freedman wants 19-year-old Akpom to boost his team for the remainder of the season, with Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger willing to let him go out on loan to get first-team football.

Akpom -- who has yet to score a first-team goal in his career -- has made seven substitute appearances for Arsenal this season and signed a new four-and-a-half year deal in January.
