Barcelona's Luis Suarez clear to play for Liverpool in charity game

Luis Suarez is clear to return to Liverpool to play in a charity match at the end of March after being left out of Uruguay's next squad.

Suarez, who left Anfield for Barcelona in a 75 million pounds move last July, was one of several players who had agreed to take part in a charity match organised by Liverpool.

The game, though, takes place on March 29, a day after Uruguay face Morocco in a friendly in Agadir.

Suarez is allowed to play in friendlies for his country while serving a nine-game ban from competitive internationals, imposed after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match in Brazil last June.

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez, though, has left out the 28-year-old, allowing him to return to Anfield that weekend.

Liverpool's ground will host a charity match between two "all-star" teams, selected by captain Steven Gerrard and retired former vice-captain Jamie Carragher.

Gerrard and Carragher will confirm the full squads at a news conference on Thursday.

Among the players confirmed to be taking part so far are former Liverpool quartet Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt and Xabi Alonso, as well as Chelsea's John Terry and Didier Drogba, and ex-Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

Proceeds raised from the match will go to the Liverpool FC Foundation -- which funds various community programmes in the city -- and four other local charities.

Suarez scored 31 Premier League goals as Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City last season, and manager Brendan Rodgers said on Friday that he was looking forward to seeing the striker again.

Rodgers said: "It'll be great. We've kept in contact since he's been away. He's a top-class player. He loved his time here at Liverpool. He always wanted to come back.

"It'll be brilliant to see him and great for the supporters. He loved Liverpool while he was here. He's gone to another country, but he's certainly adored here. The supporters loved having him here.

"Every time he stepped on to a training pitch, he gave everything. He'll probably want to win this game as well."
