Brendan Rodgers bullish on Liverpool's top-four chances in Premier League

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes his team have moved themselves into the ideal position to challenge for another top-four finish in the Premier League after their win 2-0 against Burnley.

Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge scored the goals that kept Liverpool within two points of the top-four position that seemed beyond them for large parts of this season. Rodgers is now talking up his side's form, as Liverpool have now won six of their last seven Premier League matches.

"We've put ourselves in a very good position, but there's still a lot of work to go," said Rodgers. "Over the last three months the games have been coming thick and fast, but the players have stood up to that.

"They have achieved the objectives that we wanted to. Now we arrive with ten league games to go and it's a period of the season that we're going to really look forward to.

"We are playing at a good level, but we will not get carried away with it. I felt we were very, very good in this game. Burnley are a team that keep going to the end and they have gone to some of the big teams and looked fantastic, but we pressed them until the end.

"The team organisation is very good, we are performing well. We have very talented players, wonderful technicians and Jordan's first goal was a wonderful strike. We had chances to be more comfortable by the end. Credit to Burnley for making it difficult to us.

"You can see the excitement we are creating when we go forward and it is not being helped by our pitch, which is not the best. We need to do something about the pitch because we need a better pitch if we are going to play the game we are playing."

Rodgers reserved lavish praise for Emre Can after his side's latest victory, as he praised the player who has played in every minute of the last 18 games in Liverpool's hectic schedule over a variety of competitions.

"He is an incredible player," said Rodgers of the German. "I look at him and I think you give him another couple of years and he could play in any team in world football -- that's how highly I rate him.

"He has played in midfield, he has played wide, he's played as one of three central-defenders and he is on the way to becoming a world class talent.

"He is still young and adapting to the British game and his performance was exceptional. A total footballer can play anywhere on the field and he is so quick and strong.

"He breaks through lines with his power and pace and he has got great composure. He is settling into the game in this country very well. You can see the response by the crowd, they love him.

"He does the dirty work as well, he doesn't just play and look nice; he presses the ball really well, he is aggressive. He was wonderful again in this game."
