Tottenham and Arsenal ban 'selfie sticks' from stadiums

London duo Tottenham and Arsenal have banned "selfie sticks" from White Hart Lane and the Emirates stadium.

The social media phenomenon has taken hold in England and sees users hold their phones or cameras in a stick to get a better angle for a photo of themselves.

However, Premier League clubs have taken a stance on the prop, insisting that it is not safe to bring into grounds. Tottenham had already banned their use during a match, but have now taken the decision to stop them being allowed in the stadium altogether as revealed by a fan on Twitter.

Rivals Arsenal, meanwhile, will allow fans to use them on official club tours, but won't allow them into the ground on a matchday either.

An Arsenal spokesman told the New Journal: "We can confirm that 'selfie sticks' are banned on matchdays at Emirates Stadium. The club's ground regulations prohibit any object that could be used as a weapon or could compromise public safety."
