Eden Hazard close to becoming Chelsea's highest-paid player

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard is close to signing a new five-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club, sources have told ESPN FC.

The new deal for Hazard has been in place for the last few months, but negotiations have been stepped up in recent days and the Belgian is now close to committing his long-term future to Chelsea.

Hazard's fresh contract will end persistent rumours linking the 23-year-old playmaker with a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain, with Blues manager Jose Mourinho always confident his No. 10 would stay at Chelsea.

"It will be done soon, but I'm not worried because they are almost there," stated Mourinho last week and now it seems as if confirmation of the deal is imminent.

A report in Daily Telegraph suggests the deal could be worth as much as 200,000 pounds-per-week for Hazard, which would move him to the top of the wages charts at Chelsea.

Hazard has scored nine goals for Chelsea in all competitions this season, with three of those strikes coming in his last four games as he has hit a rich vein of form before the hectic Christmas fixture programme.
