Arsene Wenger has said Arsenal are keeping tabs on Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings, but stressed that the Gunners are not close to making a signing at the moment.

Left-back Mings has shone as Ipswich, managed by Mick McCarthy, have risen to second in the Championship table.

It is thought the Suffolk club would want up to eight million pounds for the 21-year-old, Sky Sports reported.

Wenger has said he wants to add to his squad's defensive ranks, telling reporters: "We will try to bring somebody in on the defensive front, but we are not on any special case.

"There are a few young players that we always follow. He is one of the players we follow, but we are not close to signing anybody at the moment."

Mings, who is under contract at Portman Road until 2017, was linked with a summer move to Crystal Palace.
