FA charges Everton and West Ham following Goodison Park melee

The Football Association has charged Everton and West Ham with "failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" in a stormy 2-1 win for the Merseysiders at Goodison Park on Saturday.

There was a melee after Everton's James McCarthy tackled Morgan Amalfitano, with a number of West Ham players confronting the Republic of Ireland international.

Both McCarthy and Winston Reid were booked by referee Mark Clattenburg.

A statement on the FA website said: "Everton and West Ham United have been charged by the FA following their game on Nov. 22 2014.

"It is alleged that, in or around the 40th minute of the fixture, both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

"The clubs have until 6 p.m. on Dec. 1 2014 to respond to the charge."

Everton midfielder Leon Osman marked his 400th appearance for the club with the goal that ended West Ham's five-match unbeaten run.

The Hammers had appeared on course for a point when substitute Mauro Zarate cancelled out Romelu Lukaku's goal.
