Manchester United beat Arsenal, Chelsea go clear, Man City fight back

Manchester United beat rivals Arsenal, Chelsea's fine start to the Premier League season continued as they eased to victory over West Bromwich Albion, while Manchester City came from behind to win at home to Swansea City.

Newcastle beat QPR to secure their fifth Premier League win on the bounce, and Everton continued to climb the table by overcoming Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Burnley made it back-to-back wins with a surprise success at Stoke, while Leicester and Sunderland played out a drab goalless draw at the King Power Stadium.

Manchester United claimed a smash-and-grab 2-1 win at Arsenal to climb to fourth in the Premier League table.

Arsenal dominated much of the first half but found themselves frustrated by a string of saves from goalkeeper David De Gea.

United took the lead on 56 minutes against the run of play when, after Jack Wilshere had been substituted through injury, Kieran Gibbs deflected into his own net.

Louis van Gaal's team doubled their lead on the counter-attack with five minutes remaining as Wayne Rooney raced clear and lifted the ball over goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who had replaced the injured Wojciech Szczesny.

Olivier Giroud pulled a goal back for the Gunners with a splendid strike deep in injury time but it was too little, too late from Arsene Wenger's men.

Chelsea opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the table with a 2-0 win at home to 10-man West Brom.

Jose Mourinho's men took advantage of second-placed Southampton not being in action until Monday to surge clear, and were two goals in front in the space of 25 minutes thanks to Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.

West Brom's hopes of an unlikely comeback at Stamford Bridge were effectively extinguished before the half hour when Claudio Yacob was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Costa.

Swansea gave Manchester City a shock when Wilfried Bony gave them a ninth-minute lead at the Etihad Stadium, but Manuel Pellegrini's side brushed off their recent patchy form to fight back and take all three points with a 2-1 win.

The Swans led for only 10 minutes before Stevan Jovetic equalised, and Yaya Toure ensured that they did not fall further behind Chelsea by netting a 62nd-minute winner.

Everton made it five Premier League matches unbeaten as they ended West Ham United's run of form with a 2-1 victory at Goodison Park.

Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring on 26 minutes, with the Belgium international firing past West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.

Mauro Zarate equalised for the Hammers early in the second half, only for Roberto Martinez's men to hit back and clinch three points through Leon Osman following a swift counter-attack.

Moussa Sissoko fired Newcastle to a sixth successive victory to extend QPR's dismal run on the road and lift the Magpies into the top four with a 1-0 win.

The Frenchman, captaining the side in the absence of the injured Fabricio Coloccini, won it 12 minutes from time with the only goal as the Magpies finally made the pressure tell and left the visitors still without a single Premier League point away from home.

Alan Pardew's men enjoyed the better of the game but were frustrated by poor finishing and the efforts of keeper Robert Green. However, there was heartache for Ryan Taylor, starting his first Premier League game in 993 days, when he limped off in tears after just 34 minutes.

Burnley's resurgence continued as a quickfire brace early on from Danny Ings secured a 2-1 win at Stoke that took the Clarets off the bottom of the table.

Sean Dyche's men had claimed their first victory of the season in their last outing by defeating Hull 1-0 at home, and they looked determined to add three more points at the Britannia Stadium, with striker Ings taking advantage of sloppy play from the Potters to tuck in from close range in the 12th and 13th minutes.

Jonathan Walters pulled a goal back for the home side in the 32nd minute, and Burnley held on after withstanding plenty of pressure.

Leicester's goalless streak continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Sunderland to a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes extended their goal drought to 500 minutes -- and have now not netted in their last five games. A tight match had few clear chances, but Kasper Schmeichel produced two fine first-half saves to thwart Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson while Costel Pantilimon saved well from Matty James.
