Tata Martino downplays injury to Manchester United star Angel Di Maria

MANCHESTER -- Angel Di Maria will have his foot X-rayed after being hurt in a challenge in Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Portugal as Manchester United's shocking run of injuries during the international break continued.

The British record signing went down in pain after a tackle from Nani, who is owned by United but on loan at Sporting Lisbon. However, Tata Martino does not believe the damage is anything to be concerned about.

Martino said in his news conference: "We don't think it is anything serious. It was quite a tough blow he took. It was a tough knock. It cut the skin a little bit. But we have had a look at it and we are evaluating the situation.

"We are having a look at some X-rays, some images that have been taken but in spite of that we don't think it is too serious."

Di Maria told reporters: "It was just a blow. I hope it doesn't swell anymore so I can play at the weekend."

United, who face Arsenal on Saturday, have already lost three players in the international break with Michael Carrick suffering a groin problem, David de Gea fracturing a finger and Daley Blind having a knee ligament injury.

Di Maria has been an ever-present since completing his British record transfer from Real Madrid in August.

He played on for a further 40 minutes after being hurt before being replaced by Erik Lamela.
