Arsenal's Arsene Wenger rejected chances to become France coach

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has turned down the opportunity of becoming France coach "several times" because it would have been "a little bit of a waste of time."

Wenger, 65, has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996, with his work for the Gunners transforming him from a virtual unknown outside his native France into one of world football's most respected figures.

His name has been linked with his country's national job on several occasions, most notably when Raymond Domenech and Laurent Blanc left the role in 2010 and 2012 respectively.

However, Wenger told BeIN SPORTS, in quotes reported by Football365, that he had little interest in swapping the day-to-day work of club football for the international scene.

"I have had the opportunity to be France coach several times. As the France coach, there are only two interesting things -- the World Cup and the Euros. The rest is a little bit of a waste of time," he said.
