Mark Hughes pleased after Stoke earn first victory at home

Stoke boss Mark Hughes hailed Monday's 1-0 victory against Newcastle a "big" win for his side.

The Potters claimed their first points at home of the Premier League season on their first goal at the Britannia Stadium -- Peter Crouch's first-half header.

"We are delighted with that," Hughes said. "It was an important win for us today, a big win."

Stoke had failed to score in two previous Premier League games on home soil, losing 1-0 to Aston Villa to open the season and 1-0 to Leicester City on Sept. 13.

"There has been a little bit of negativity around our home form. But we were always quite comfortable in that we felt it was only a matter of time before our home form turned around.

"And I think on the balance of play, we deserved to win the game."

Stoke moved up from 17th to 11th in the table and have eight points from their six games.
