Lambert, who arrived at Villa Park in 2012, was set to be out of contract at the end of the season but has now committed himself to the club until 2018.

The Scot had been in talks with Villa as early February, before finally coming to an agreement with owner Randy Lerner last week.

"I'm determined that we continue building the club to where we all want it to be," Lambert told Villa's official Twitter account.

"This is a massive football club, a fantastic football club. We can look to the future with real optimism and a determination to make this season successful, and the seasons that follows."

Lambert succeeded the sacked Alex McLeish after impressing at Norwich, guiding the Canaries from League One to the Premier League.

He has come under fire at times from the Villa faithful during his tenure, but the club have started the new season in impressive fashion and currently sit second in the table.
