Hughes: Bojan showed signs of class

Stoke manager Mark Hughes has said summer signing Bojan Krkic "showed glimpses" of what he could do after coming off the bench in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Hull.

The arrival of Bojan at the Britannia Stadium from Barcelona was seen as a coup for Hughes, with the 23-year-old also having played for Roma, AC Milan and Ajax.

After playing 90 minutes in the home 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of Stoke's season, he was relegated to the bench at Hull.

He entered the fray shortly before half-time after an injury to Glenn Whelan and went on to provide the cross that led to the equaliser from Ryan Shawcross.

Hughes said: "The thinking with the [starting] team was that it was a difficult away fixture, so we just thought this was a situation where we needed to be nice and solid in midfield, with a strong, experienced middle three.

"At the moment we're just trying to bring everyone up to the correct level, then shirts are up for grabs.

"I was going to do make a change in the second half anyway [before Whelan's injury] -- we needed to take one of the defensive midfield players off and get Bojan on.

"We were a little bit out of sorts, but I thought he did okay. He showed glimpses of what he'll give us this year.''
