Remy Cabella: Newcastle right for me

Remy Cabella has been touted as a potential replacement for Yohan Cabaye at Newcastle.
Cabella is relishing the chance of playing at St James' Park.

Remy Cabella has told L'Equipe he believes Newcastle were "the right choice" for him and said he was looking forward to the "mouthwatering" prospect of playing at St. James' Park.

Cabella, 24, completed a reported 10 million euro move from Montpellier to the Magpies last weekend.

The France international, who was drafted into Les Bleus' World Cup squad when Franck Ribery withdrew through injury, has established himself as one of Ligue 1's most exciting talents in the last two seasons.

He told the paper he believed the time was right for a new challenge, adding: "I really wanted to discover the Premier League.

"I am convinced it's the right choice, and Newcastle is the club that suits me.

"Their recruitment staff had been following me for a while, the manager wanted me -- everything came together, even if it was a wrench to leave Montpellier."

Cabella, who has signed a six-year deal, said he had spoken to international teammates Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy, who all played for Newcastle last season, about the prospect of joining the club.

"They told me great things about the club, the fans, the players," he said. "I have already seen St. James' Park. I went onto the pitch and into the stands to get a better idea of the size of the stadium, and it's mouthwatering."

Cabella earned his sole international cap to date just before the World Cup, but is expected to become a regular in the run-up to Euro 2016, which France will host.

"I think the experience picked up with the French national team in the last few weeks will serve me well," he explained. "I understood a lot of things by being alongside all those other internationals. To get to the top level, you have to work a lot and I'm ready for that.

"To stay in the squad and aim for Euro 2016, I had to take a step up. Playing in the best league in the world is going to help me improve."
