Swansea captain Ashley Williams has committed his future to the club, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Williams, 29, was linked with a move to Sunderland earlier this summer, but has opted to stay in Wales until at least the summer of 2018.

He was also reported to have interested London duo Arsenal and QPR, but Swansea stressed they were keen to keep him and were optimistic that contract talks would bear fruit.

The central defender -- who also captains Wales -- told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract at Swansea City.

"I've enjoyed fantastic success at this club and I want to keep helping Swansea City progress."

Williams arrived in Wales from Stockport County in 2008, signing a permanent deal following a successful loan spell.
