England's Roy Hodgson believes scrapped FA Cup replays a good step

England manager Roy Hodgson says his side have plenty to work on ahead of Euro 2016, following their 2-1 win over Turkey.

England manager Roy Hodgson believes the scrapping of FA Cup quarterfinal replays could be the first step to a winter break in the Premier League.

In a move approved by the FA board on Thursday, the last-eight stage of the cup competition will revert to a sudden-death format over one weekend in a bid to ease English football's congested fixture list.

And while there was no mention of any further initiatives in the official announcement, Hodgson thinks it could help break down opposition to the kind...

Ronald de Boer tips brother Frank to get best of Everton's John Stones

The ESPN FC crew discuss the potential candidates to replace Roberto Martinez at Everton.

Ronald de Boer believes his brother Frank would be the ideal coach to inspire Everton's John Stones to reach his potential.

For all of his ability in possession, Stones has been criticised this season for some costly lapses in defence.

He remains at the centre of a wider debate over whether his footballing instincts should be nurtured or if he should instead be instructed to kick the ball long.

Everton's unreliable defence was a major factor in the team's struggles that culminated in the sacking...

Five challenges facing new Watford manager Walter Mazzarri

Former Inter Milan, Sampdoria and Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri has been appointed as the next Watford manager.

Gianluca Vialli's one season in charge in 2001-02 ended with his expensively assembled squad finishing 14th in the Championship. Their ludicrous wage bill nearly bankrupted the club, which had to sell the stadium and then lease it back (thankfully the ground was purchased again in 2004 after a fundraising initiative featuring a concert by former Chairman Elton John). Vialli was sacked...

Joe Allen to decide his Liverpool future during the preseason

ESPN FC's Stewart Robson questions whether Yacine Brahimi would be a smart move financially and tactically for Liverpool.
Goalkeeper Loris Karius says it's an honour to play for a club like Liverpool after completing his move from Mainz.
Former Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld says Mario Gotze would suit Liverpool well after limited chances with the Bavarian club.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen says his Anfield future rests on the club's preseason plans and his part in them.

Allen has one year left on his Liverpool contract and former club Swansea are among those monitoring the 26-year-old's situation on Merseyside.

The Wales international spoke to Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre and manager Jurgen Klopp about his future in January when it was agreed that the matter would be put on the back-burner until after his participation at Euro 2016 this summer.
