Barcelona-Real Madrid Clasico events around world to be hosted by La Liga

La Liga has organised special events around the world to tie in with Sunday's Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou.

The match will be shown on giant screens in New York and Buenos Aires as well as locations across South America, Asia and Europe.

Live music, VIP zones and competitions will all be on offer at the screenings, La Liga said.

New York City FC striker David Villa, a former Barcelona star who is also a La Liga ambassador, will attend the event in Manhattan, starting at noon at Pier 26 at Hudson River Park.

Former Barca striker Patrick Kluivert will host the event at the Argentine Polo Field in Buenos Aires, while Indonesia coach Luis Milla, who played for both Barca and Madrid, will attend a Jakarta screening, at which football clinics will be among the activities taking place.

In Belgium, the game will be shown live at 11 cinemas, with former Madrid player Christian Karembeu expected to attend the showing in Brussels.

The Clasico is one of the world's most-watched sporting events, with Barcelona's 3-2 league win at the Bernabeu in April 2017 aired in 185 countries and reaching 650 million viewers.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has worked to attract more viewers to Spain's top division as he attempts to close the TV ratings gap on the Premier League.

Tebas told Expansion last month that the Premier League "became big because of its brand."
