Luis Suarez says ending goal drought 'not a big deal' after Barcelona win

Luis Suarez played down the significance of his five-game goal drought after he scored twice in Barcelona's derby win over Espanyol on Saturday.

The Uruguayan striker scored the first and last goals in a 3-0 win as Barca moved back to the top of La Liga, jumping ahead of Real Madrid, who had beaten Valencia earlier in the day.

They were Suarez's first goals in six appearances in all competitions -- his longest drought in his Barcelona career -- and took his tally to 26 in the league this season.

"Of course I am happy with the goals, above all because of what they meant for the team," he told reporters after the game at Cornella-El Prat.

"I want to make it clear it wasn't a big deal not having scored [for five games]; that I wasn't obsessed about not scoring recently.

"I've been calm through it all, it wasn't an obsession. They're things which happen in football. The important thing is to help the team, it doesn't matter who scores the goals."

Barca boss Luis Enrique echoed Suarez's comments, adding in his post game news conference: "Suarez wasn't worried. Besides, you can't judge a player just by goals, because Suarez adds a lot more [than just goals]."

The Blaugrana struggled to break down city rivals Espanyol, relying on a Jose Manuel Jurado mistake when they eventually broke the deadlock in the second half.

Ivan Rakitic and Suarez completed the win late on, with Luis Enrique insisting that a hard-fought first half had served to wear Espanyol down.

"We needed to play at a good rhythm to wear them down and, in the end, we wore them down," the Barca coach said.

"Without our first half performance, when both teams were fresh and there were no clear cut chances, we wouldn't have been able to do what we did in the second period, when we generated more.

"We deserved the win and I am satisfied with what was a really professional performance from my players."

While Barca lead Madrid at the top of La Liga because of their superior head-to-head record -- both teams are tied on points -- Zinedine Zidane's side have a game in hand.

"Look at the calendar and look where we have slipped up in the league this season," Luis Enrique said when asked if the remaining fixtures favoured his side.

"All games are difficult -- and even more so at this stage of the championship. We have two objectives [La Liga and the Copa del Rey] and we want to fight until the end for them both."
