Barcelona to take Luis Suarez suspension appeal to CAS

Barcelona will take their attempt to overturn the Copa del Rey final suspension of Luis Suarez to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The move comes after the appeals committee of the Spanish Football Federation rejected their attempt to overturn the decision.

Suarez will miss the final against Alaves on May 27 after being sent off for two yellow cards in the semifinal second leg against Atletico Madrid.

His second yellow card came for throwing his arm in the direction of Koke minutes after having been booked for a foul on Juanfran.

Barcelona believe the second booking should not have stood.

Suarez will also sit out Barcelona's first game in next year's competition, with the ban having been extended to two games for his initial refusal to leave the pitch and ignoring of orders to return to the dressing room.

"After the appeals committee rejected the claim against the two-match suspension of Luis Suarez, the club shall be referring the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport," a Barcelona statement released on Thursday said.

"The appeal is based on the argument that the player never struck the opposing player 'in a reckless manner' as stated in the match official's report."

Speaking immediately after the game, Suarez said the decision was "laughable."

Right-back Sergi Roberto will be suspended for the final after also being sent off for two bookings against Atletico, although the club did not appeal against either of those decisions.
