Aleix Vidal will not leave Barcelona in transfer window - Robert Fernandez

Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal will remain at the club this month after a string of good performances proved his worth to Luis Enrique.

Vidal, who's competing with Sergi Roberto for a place in the side, went nearly three months without playing a competitive game following his performance in Barca's shock defeat to Alaves in September.

Reports throughout that period suggested he had no future at Camp Nou, with Shakhtar Donetsk's Darijo Srna lined up as a potential replacement.

However, Vidal has taken advantage of the chances which have come his way in December and January. Sporting director Robert Fernandez says there's no way he will leave during the current transfer window.

"Aleix Vidal stays, I can say that quite clearly," Fernandez said at a Mundo Deportivo gala on Monday. "We're happy with the reaction he's shown."

With Vidal not going anywhere, Fernandez also admitted that it's highly unlikely there will be any signings this month.

"I don't think there will be any movement in January," he said.

Vidal reappeared from his ostracism for a Copa del Rey game against Hercules at the end of November and has slowly demonstrated what he can add to the team since then.

After impressive performances Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League and Las Palmas in La Liga, Luis Enrique admitted that Vidal had proved him wrong.

The former Sevilla player came on a substitute in the weekend win at Eibar, setting up Neymar's goal, and has previously spoken about his desire to remain in Catalonia.

"I enjoy each and every day I spend here," he said in December. "I've never said I want to leave and I will always give 1,000 percent to be able to be a success here."
