Barcelona denounce La Liga president Javier Tebas in bottle-toss appeal

Barcelona have asked the Administrative Court of Sport (TAS) to take action against the Spanish RFEF competition committee as well as La Liga president Javier Tebas for comments made following the bottle throwing incident which marred the end of Saturday's win against Valencia.

In a statement released on Thursday, the club said they withdrew their backing for Tebas as league president.

"The declarations made by Tebas are irresponsible and unbecoming of a sports executive," Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu said.

"And the [RFEF's] competition committee is not there to make assessments but rather to take disciplinary action -- or not -- in order to make an example of incidents that occur on the field of play, and making statements regarding the actions of the players adds even more tension to a situation that must be de-escalated.

"[Barca] will bring these declarations before the TAS because we want it to see to it that if they produce violence they are punished accordingly."

Barcelona are angry with the accusations which have been made since the scenes which followed Lionel Messi's stoppage time winner at Mestalla last weekend.

The RFEF fined Valencia €1,500 on Wednesday after a supporter threw a bottle during a dramatic 3-2 win for Luis Enrique's side that led to the Barca players celebrating in front of the home fans in the Curva Nord.

The RFEF competition committee criticised the Catalan club's players for their role in the scenes which they said marred the end of an enthralling match.

Tebas said that Barcelona players provoked Valencia supporters and implied that Neymar and Luis Suarez faked contact and "fell like bowling pins." He also said he would be embarrassed to go home to his children if he had acted that way.

In their statement, Barcelona asked the TAS to open disciplinary proceedings.

"FC Barcelona have formally requested that the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) open disciplinary proceedings against Javier Tebas, who is the president of Spain's La Liga, and the members of the Competition Committee, as a result of their unacceptable public declarations and assessments regarding the FC Barcelona players, who were attacked during last Saturday's match versus Valencia CF at the Mestalla Stadium.

"As a result, and following established procedures, the Club today is officially presenting both cases to Miguel Cardenal, the Secretary of State for Sports and the president of the National Sports Council (CSD), so that he may bring them before the Administrative Court of Sport, the body which will be tasked with making a decision on the reported incidents.

"At the same time, FC Barcelona publicly condemns Mr. Tebas as the president of the LFP and the Club hereby fully withdraws its confidence in him from this moment forth."

Spanish league officials also denounced Valencia for fans' offensive chants.

The league said it has asked the Spanish federation to consider sanctioning the club because the chants were discriminatory and incited violence.

The league said the offensive chants occurred in the 93rd and 94th minutes --around the time when Messi converted the penalty kick.

Valencia players and club directors complained about the refereeing after the game and fans were also upset with the calls that went against their team.
