Barcelona's Javier Mascherano to extend contract to 2019 on Monday

Barcelona have confirmed that Javier Mascherano will sign his new contract with the club on Monday.

Albert Soler, the Catalan club's director of professional sports, revealed in July that Mascherano, 32, had agreed to extend his Camp Nou deal until 2019.

However, due to a number of circumstances, such as changes to the board and international breaks, the Argentina international has not yet been able to sign his new terms.

The same is true for Brazil international Neymar, who also agreed to extend his stay in Barcelona earlier this year, although his participation at the Olympics in the summer postponed the signing of the terms which had been planned for August.

Mascherano was heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the summer and even admitted there was a chance he could leave the club.

However, the Blaugrana were keen not to lose him and moved swiftly to agree a new three-year deal, which will be signed on Monday.

Since joining the club from Liverpool in 2010, Mascherano has made almost 300 appearances, predominantly as a centre-back.

During his six-year stay, he has won four La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues, among other a number of other trophies.

Barca are soon expected to announce when Neymar will sign his new deal, with attention then turning to reaching agreements over extending several other first team players' contracts.

Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi feature on a long list of players who are expected to commit their futures to Barca in the coming months.
