Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer not obsessing over scoring first goal

Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer insists he's not obsessing about the goalless start he's made to life at his new club.

The former Valencia frontman has played four games for Barca so far, starting two of them, including the midweek 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League.

However, he was taken off after just 53 minutes in Germany and there's been criticism that he looked lost in an unfamiliar position on the right of a front three.

Alcacer remains calm, although he admits that sooner than later the goals to kickstart his Blaugrana career need to start flowing.

"I know that I have to score now," he said in an interview with Diario Sport. "I'm a striker and I live for goals. If that wasn't the case I would be a defender or a goalkeeper.

"Forwards are ruled by scoring goals. You have to take the few chances that you get. I'm not obsessed [with scoring my first goal], if you obsess it's worse. But if you're not mentally strong you can end up obsessing."

Even before embarking on a mini goal drought at Camp Nou, the 23-year-old had been forced to defend his decision to leave Valencia in a €30 million move this August.

Los Che fans berated the transfer on social media and mocked the fact he would be playing second fiddle to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

In that regard, Alcacer feels he's well prepared for the complaints which will continue to be made until he scores his first goal.

"I've already said that what people say doesn't affect me," he explained. "They're going to criticise me and they're going to praise me for what I do on the pitch.

"In that aspect I'm relaxed because I'm here because the board and the manager wanted me and feel that I can play here. That relaxes me. The first few months at a new club for any player are about adapting.

"As much as people want to mark me as the best player or the worst player, I always try to take refuge with my family, my friends and my partner. I focus on training, working hard and improving.

"They said I was going to come here and I was not going to play at all, that I would only be on the bench, but that's not been the case. As I've already said, I'm focused on my own business."
